Freestyle Starter, Basic Combo 3 in 1 System

Our most popular board size in the economy Starter model is perfect for getting started on balance training and progressing to a larger ball. A great combination for medium sized riders and developing kids who will grow into this board.

  • Balance Board Combos: Create 3:1
  • Size: 36" x 18"
  • Ride Stance: 20" - 34"
  • Skill Level: All Riders
  • Heights: 4' and taller
  • Balls: (1) 3" Mini
  • Half Balls: (1) 5" Small
  • Add-on: Rail extensions for more ride space
  • Best board for entire family
  • Great beginner board for most rider sizes
  • Combination of speed and strength training

The Beginning of Your Destiny

Our most popular board size is available for smaller feet and stances. The Freestyle Starter brings the beauty of movement and athleticism to you. Express your ride style with smooth controlled turns, graceful momentum transfers or pure powerful ambition. Either take it slow and steady or fire up your muscles and set yourself apart..

Large Comfort Zone:

With the Starter rail you have a wide stance range to develop your skill set. Ride directly over the bolt holes or move your feet out another 6" inches to the ends. Plenty of space for upper and full body exercises with a solid platform to land on. Ride on two balls or half balls for an endless amount of fun and exercise progression.

Balance On This:

Get Started Here:

Create your own unique combo with this board. Add the Balls and Half Balls that meet your training needs. Features an adjustable rail that can be lengthened or shortened in 4" inch sections. A great board choice for those who will grow with their board and want to practice a wide range of stances.

3" Mini Balls:

3" Mini Ball is quick, responsive and requires fine tuning of your movements. With little board tilt and a ton of forward and backward ride space, your board control will always be challenged to stay level. Staying centered is no easy feat with this Mini Ball. As you progress in skill and add more accessories you can combine both balls under the board for the Double Pivot system for skill progression.

5" Half Balls:

5" Half Balls allow you to create your own wobble or rocker board. Perfect for skill progression with lower body balance and upper body complex moves. Fast tilt and very responsive movements develop your reaction skills. Great for movement transitions from hands to feet and full body balance. Some users progress to the larger 6.5" Half Ball if needing more tilt.

Extend Your Rail and Ride Space

Customize Your Balance Board!

All Si Boards Starter Boards come with an adjustable urethane rail. All parts are interchangeable with the same interlocking joint system. Starter Boards come with a smaller rail compared to the Original Boards and give you the option to extend your rail to the maximum ride space. Progress or regress your ride space based on your skills.

Can I Use 4" Extensions?

Yes! This extension length gives your 24" of ride space. If using existing hole configuration your rail will be offset more to the back or front of the board. An offset rail will focus your ride skills to either the back or front of the board. If you want a centered rail you will need to drill a completely new hole pattern.

Can I use 8" Extensions?

Yes! This is the best Rail Extension length. This gives you maximum ride space to 28" similar to our Surf Original board. The rail will be centered and 6 new holes will need to be drilled. It is best to use the 5" Small Ball and 6.5" Half Ball for optimal performance.

Elysia's Notes:

This popular board combines the best of both worlds. A medium board size for a wide range of stances and a small rail for smaller riders. At trade shows when an entire family shows up this is the board they feel find the most useful for everybody. Parents can stay active and kids can lean to develop their athletic ability. I love working with beginners on this board because I know I can take them through upper body, full body and lower body coordination without excessive range of motion.

Si Boards Progressions for Beginner to Advanced

Basic Combos: From Beginner to Advanced

1. Rocker Board: 2 Half Balls

Place Half Balls flat side up for faster tilt. Using two creates a Rocker Board that tilts in 2 directions - Left and Right for example. The farther the Half Balls are from one another, the more stable the surface. You can place them very close together for more challenge. This is great for holding a position and rocking the board left and right to activate your muscle coordination.

2. Wobble Board: 1 Half Ball

Place 1 Half Ball under your board and it will tilt in all directions and allow you to twist the board. Place in the center for an equal weight distribution. Place to the side and you will activate the side directly over the Half Ball. This is great for developing strength on one side if it is weaker or unable to function the same after an injury.

3. Single Pivot Board: 1 Half Ball and 1 Ball

Place 1 Half Ball under the left side of the board and 1 Ball under the right side of the board. The left side will tilt front to back and the right side will pivot or slide forward and backward. A great progression to learning how to activate hip rotation on a moving board on one side of your body.

Best set up: 3" Ball and 6.5" Half Ball or 5" Ball and 8.5" Half Ball

4. Double Pivot Board: 2 Balls

Use 2 of the same sized ball under your board to activate each side in rotation. Placing the Balls close is more difficult. You will get multi-direction motion without the extreme tilting from left to right feet. A perfect combo for advanced skills like surf pop-up, quadruped, deep squats and adding difficult upper body battle rope exercises while maintaining balance.

5. Multi-Direction Board: 1 Ball

The heart of the Si Board is riding on 1 Ball for a multi-direction platform. The freedom to move left/right, front/back, twist, diagonal, clockwise/counterclock and 360 spins all at the same time. This is the most advanced balance board skill to learn fine motor skill and full body awareness.

Specialty Combos: for Unpredictable Training

6. Rock and Roll: Small Ball inside of Half Ball x 2

Placing a small Ball inside the Half Ball creates two moving surfaces. The small Ball rolls around inside of the Half Ball. The Half Ball is placed flat side up and creates a rocking or wobble motion. Four moving surfaces that keep you level and don't allow the board to roll to extremes. You feel all surfaces continuously knock into each other abruptly. Perfect for deep stance endurance simulating rough water and windy conditions.

Use these combos:

  1. 3" Mini Ball rolling inside a Vortex 5" Half Ball or 6.5" Half Ball at each end
  2. 5" Small Ball rolling inside a 8.5" Half Ball at each end

7. Thrasher: Small Ball inside of Half Ball x 1

Placing a small Ball inside the Half Ball creates two moving surfaces. The small Ball rolls around inside of the Half Ball. The Half Ball is placed flat side up and creates a rocking or wobble motion. Two moving surfaces that give you extreme tilts in all direction with slight board rolling. Perfect for holding your push-up position against an opponent and a narrow squat with very quick foot reactions.

Use these combos:

  1. 3" Mini Ball rolling inside a Vortex 5" Half Ball or 6.5" Half Ball
  2. 5" Small Ball rolling inside a 8.5" Half Ball

8. Ball Big Drop: Medium Ball fixed tight inside a large Half Ball

Wedge a Ball inside the Half Ball so that the two parts do not move. You have two different sized balance points and this gets you up high off the ground. You will teeter/hover around and just as the Half Ball gets to the edge you will feel a fast drop to the ground. Reaction to this feels like a sudden drop and being able to control landing on you sport board.

Use these combos:

  1. 5" Small Ball fixed tight inside a 6.5" Half Ball
  2. 6.5" Medium Ball fixed tight inside a 8.5" Half Ball

            QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

            Ask a Question
            • I’m new to si-boards and it’s exactly what I was looking for. I’m a little stuck right now because I’m afraid I will outgrow the beginner board quickly and because of the cost, I won’t be able to upgrade anytime soon. How “beginner” is the beginner board? What are your thoughts on outgrowing boards quickly?

Depending on where you see your long-term training- this may dictate your options.   For budget in mind, I would suggest a Starter board and extend the rail to the maximum length to get the most ride space. This will mimic the Original board size, however the front and back motion will be less due to the narrow rail. It will still be ok though and still challenge you any time you get on the board.   If your long-term goals are to attach bands to the rail of the Original board and use it to it's full potential- it might be better to invest upfront. We are also coming out with an attachment strap for the Original board to a Bosu. We are having fun jumping on the board and getting a different feel for training. Starter boards will not have this option.   If you extend the rail I think you will be ok and not feel like you are outgrowing the Starter board unless you want to do additional work with bands. There are times we hook bands to the rail and to the wall and get additional resistance.
