The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is deep inside the knee joint and helps stabilize the lower body. This ligament tears when the lower leg Tibia bone shifts too far forward from the upper thigh Femur bone.
There are numerous ACL Injury prevention programs and exercises. Key concepts are to strengthen the hamstrings and gluteus medius and a soft bent knee landing with proper squat mechanics. Together, these prevent the anterior translation of the tibia and excessive stress on the ACL.
